Get to know River

Recovery is about more than medical treatment — it’s about finding comfort, hope, and meaningful human connection. That’s why Believe Detox Center is proud to introduce River, our certified therapy dog and one of the friendliest members of our support team.

On scheduled visit days, River brings a calm, reassuring presence to patients throughout their recovery journey at Believe Detox Center. Whether someone is preparing for a counseling session, participating in rehabilitation, or simply having a challenging day, River’s gentle companionship can help make the environment feel more welcoming and less stressful.

River’s visits are designed to support patients by:

  • Helping reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
  • Encouraging positive social interaction and meaningful connection.
  • Inspiring greater engagement throughout the recovery process.
  • Providing comfort during counseling sessions and physical rehabilitation activities.

River is privately owned by a dedicated volunteer or staff member and has successfully completed temperament testing and certification through a recognized therapy dog organization. Each visit is carefully scheduled to ensure a safe, comfortable, and positive experience for everyone at Believe Detox Center.

While River isn’t a clinician, his calm demeanor, friendly personality, and unconditional acceptance often bring smiles, encouragement, and moments of peace when they’re needed most. Sometimes, a wagging tail, a gentle nudge, or a quiet companion by your side can remind you that you’re never alone on the path to recovery.

At Believe Detox Center, healing is built on compassionate, evidence-based care delivered by dedicated professionals who understand the challenges of recovery. River is honored to play a supportive role in creating a warm, encouraging atmosphere where patients can focus on healing — one wagging tail at a time.
