If you are in recovery, then you know that just because your walking into sobriety and out of quite possibly one of the worst chapters of your life, that doesn’t alway mean things are going to get easier. This week during our online support group meeting, we discussed what happens when our recovery is tested and what tools do you have for when those moments arise.
Overcoming substance use addiction disorder is possible with a plan in motion and support. Now add some tools you’ve acquired along the way and your even better off. That is why it’s imperative to discuss some of the tools we can use being in recovery that will help us keep making progress on our recovery journey.
Whether your battling substance use, alcoholism, etc make sure you jot some of these recovery tools down because anyone a utilize them in order to help make some positive changes in their life. The first one is to practice self care. This allows us to be more balanced when issues arise. Excercise, eat right and get rest. Don’t forget to practice things like mindfulness, meditation, breathing exercises and more. Your mind need breaks too.
Aside from tools, people in recovery should be doing their part to ensure that they have a strong support system around them. This could be family and friends as well a professional help like therapists, counselors and support groups. Get people around you that are celebrating your victories over substance use disorder and supportive of your recovery journey.
One should also have coping strategies in place. Journaling is always a great way to process certain things. You can also track progress and emotions. Triggers and more. Creator outlets are good too like art, music and hobbies as far as a form of therapy.
Hard times will occur in life and it is imperative that those of us in recovery atleast be ready for the storm when it comes. Whether personal changes or societal changes that come about, when we take the time out to work on acquiring tools that will help us in these moments, the stronger and better off we’ll be.
