The impact of childhood trauma and adults cannot be underestimated. Childhood trauma, or any experience that threatens a child’s physical or emotional well-being. Many of us today are still suffering silently because of the childhood trauma we endured in our past. The simple fact that a lot of these traumas have gone unprocessed and untreated Has led many down a road of addiction and mental health issues. This is why I wanted to take the time out today to share some thoughts on the top.

The importance of addressing childhood trauma cannot be underestimated, not in the least. Many adults live a life where they are suffering from anxiety, depression, and more will often find if they’re able to get help that what they’re feeling presently as adults is based more specifically on what they experienced as children. Many people that suffer from addiction are trying to numb the thoughts and moments that still haunt them today. As I get deeper into this topic, I ask are there certain traumas from your childhood that you have yet to heal from?

Childhood trauma can be broken down into different segments. The different types of childhood trauma include emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, household dysfunction, and more the statistic show that many children will experience some form of trauma in their childhood while they are growing up. What type of household did you grow up in? What type of household are you a part of now? Have you personally experienced any of the trauma type listed above? Take a moment to reflect and be transparent with yourself in this moment.

Now, let’s discuss the psychological effects of childhood trauma. Childhood trauma can often be seen as the cause of long-term mental health issues that manifest in the form of PTSD, anxiety, depression and of course one of the things that we treat here at believe detox center, substance abuse disorder. Severe childhood trauma can lead to emotional regulation issues adults, and later years can also experience self-esteem issues as well as a misinterpretation of their self worth in value. Also, it should be noted that many people that experience childhood trauma without treatment develop maladaptive coping mechanism, such as substance abuse, self harm and more.

It should also be noted that there are physical health consequences to childhood trauma. There is a direct link between this type of trauma and chronic health conditions. Some examples of these chronic health conditions include heart, disease, diabetes, and obesity not to mention it can have a direct impact on the immune system and overall health. The effects of toxic stress deals a blow to both the mind and body.

Now let us discuss the social and behavioral implications of childhood trauma. Many times it is difficult to form healthy relationships when you experienced severe trauma as a child. Trust issues, fear of intimacy and more can rise. Individuals may find themselves repeating patterns of trauma, in adult relationships that they experienced as a child. Also, an increased risk of engaging in risky behaviors can be present as well as challenges in academic and occupational settings can be prevalent in this individual’s life if they are dealing with untreated trauma from younger years.

Coping and recovery skills are key when it comes to dealing with these or this type of trauma. The importance of therapy and support systems that provide CBT, EMDR, and trauma informed care are so valuable. The role of community and social support cannot be undervalued. There are many supportive organizations in the community willing to support. I always encourage people to practice certain things that ultimately will lead to the building of resilience. Mindfulness, self-care, and healthy coping mechanisms are key when it comes to healing from these traumas.
