This week I’m going to touch on the importance of an individual‘s mindset when it comes to being successful in recovery. This topic is relevant because overall it’s the main state of the individual that will dictate and determine their level of success. Not just in recovery, but when it comes to any other goal that they may establish in their path. Developing a successful mindset can most definitely enhance the recovery journey and that is why I find it important to discuss it here in this weeks blog submission for believe detox center
First, let’s take a look at what success is. Success in recovery is personal and can mean different things for the individual. It can mean to be successful in your sobriety, personal growth, in improving relationships, and other desirable goals. Overall success in recovery means that the individual is able to keep going forward down a healthy path. Ask yourself do you consider yourself successful in your recovery journey? If not, no worries, there are things that you can implement within your life,
strategies and more that will allow you to be. Please note that some common themes of a successful mind state in recovery are stability fulfillment and living authentically. There are pathways to achieving all of these things and more.
Now let’s discuss the difference between mindset and skill set. Mindset is your mental health. It is your overall thought process when it comes to obstacles and or good moments in life, it is who you are mentally. A skill set is something that is different. It can be comprised of coping strategies and different skills which are vital, but overall it’s an individual mindset that proves to be more crucial when it comes to long-term recovery and success. It should be noted that you can have a lot of skills, but ultimately if you do not know how to use them that can cause issues in a long-term a healthy mind state is one that is of an individual that is motivated to implement these skill sets and keep them in place in order to maintain a level of success.
What is the true power of recovery mindset though well, a growth mindset in recovery is a phenomenal thing for individual to have. Growth mindset is one that embraces challenges and setbacks is opportunities to learn grow and become better. This mindset can help empower individuals when it comes to pushing through recovery hurdles, and every day or abnormal obstacles in life. I encourage everyone to cultivate a mindset of growth ultimately, it’s how I feel in the moment of adversity that can dictate my path going forward on my recovery journey personally before I had a growth mindset that often led to relapse and more now with a growth mindset. My response to adversity is completely different, and I embrace each moment as an opportunity to become better.
The power of positive thinking and self belief should never be underrated or undervalued. It is so important to cultivate positive thoughts and establish self affirmations when it comes to your recovery journey. How are you talking to yourself today? In other words, do you treat yourself well do you speak to yourself in a courteous and respectful manner? Do you speak to yourself in love? These are all legitimate questions that should be asked when an individual is in barking on their recovery journey I asked that you take a moment look in the mirror whether literally or figuratively and ask yourself how do you really talk to yourself? I encourage everyone to establish daily affirmations, practice, visualization in a form of dream boards, etc. create recovery goals, and don’t forget to practice gratitude for each step of the way because after all progress should be acknowledged.
Now let’s discuss the strategies for cultivating a successful mindset in recovery. First I recommend setting meaningful and achievable recovery goals. You can do this in the form of the smart goal system. Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound parameters on your goals are always encouraged. Establishing goals in this manner can be proven as a successful structured system. If you do not already have one in place when it comes to setting goals. Sidenote, in case you needed a reminder, you are capable of achieving anything you want to win this life when you put your mind to it and really walk a path of recovery.
Don’t forget to practice self compassion as well. It is extremely important to be gentle with yourself. I know I mentioned this previously in this blog, but I wanted to double down on this point there will be difficult times in recovery, but it is an important thing to remember that you can make it through. Do not for one moment underestimate the impact of nurturing self talk to yourself motivate yourself as this will only serve to establish and strengthen healthy self-esteem. If no one else in this world has said something nice to you today. Take the time out to remember and remind yourself, just how strong you are. You are doing something good even in this moment.
Lastly, as I bring this weeks blog submission to a close and I thank you for taking the time out to read this, do not forget to create a supportive environment. I want to emphasize the value of surrounding yourself with positive influences and supportive peers. It is one thing to read positive and motivational readings and watch shows on TV and it is another thing to actually be connected to people that are wanting to see you win in this life. I strongly suggest engaging with recovery groups seek out mentors or accountability partners to foster a sense of community. Often times you will have to take the first step, but it is OK overtime and through networking you will find the support that you need and the environment that allows you to thrive.
