Vulnerability is an integral piece of healing trauma when it comes to recovery. Still vulnerability is something that alot of people battle with. After all it’s those times that we allowed ourselves to be vulnerable that often times we may have found ourselves hurt and as I’m writing this, I understand. Still I think it’s important to discuss the what happens when you allow your self to reach that place again.

You can find strength in telling your story. It’s in these moments that we can share our successes and struggles. By telling your story in a vulnerable way, you can foster emphathy and understanding with people. It wasn’t until I mustered up enough courage in an alcohol anonymous meeting that I began to truly get the help that I needed.

Allowing your self to be vulnerable also helps you build connections as you tell your story and advocate for yourself. Connections are made through share experiences and in telling our story and being vulnerable we can identify who related to our journey which helps create a sense of belonging and helps refuse feelings of isolation. I encourage everyone reading this today to tell your story when you can in safe spaces. Build your connections.

I want to acknowledge the non linear path to healing. We must understand that setbacks are a normal process of the recovery journey. UPS and downs will occur, but you are able to move forward. This is why it’s important to get into spaces that allow vulnerability because it helps to be surrounded by individuals that found a way to make it through a certain chapter you may be facing. That being said when it comes to ups and downs, practice self compassion and patience with your self. Received very is a lifelong journey.

You will build up the courage to move forward with your healing journey. It’s in being vulnerable and transparent that we are able to build resilience and courage to continue despite challenges that may come your way. Practice mindfulness, build support systems and put emphasis on your self care. Also don’t forget to celebrate you and your small victories, not just the big ones!

Being transparent and vulnerable is key to our recovery because it allows us to become stronger. We can build connections and learn from others shared experiences. Reflect on your own story in this moment and ask yourself, how do I need to be heard to truly get the help that I need? You go this and we are here to support.
